How to deactivate an investment

Assets, such as machines, that have been depreciated can be taken out of service and potentially sold. This investment needs to be deactivated. In this article, you will learn how to deactivate an asset.

In MKG, we distinguish between main assets and sub-assets. Main assets include buildings, machines, inventory, and computers. Each main asset contains one or more sub-assets, also known as fixed asset entries. For example, different machines, such as the saw bench or milling machine, will fall under the main asset 'Machines' as sub-assets.

Once an asset has been depreciated, it can be taken out of service and potentially sold. In this step-by-step guide, you will learn how to deactivate a machine that has been taken out of service.

Step 1: Search and select the main asset

Open the Fixed Assets module. Search for and select the main asset 'Machines and Accessories' on the module's homepage. The main asset opens and displays all sub-assets, the fixed asset entries.

Step 2: Select the sub-asset

Double-click in front of the row of the sub-asset you want to deactivate. The sub-asset opens.

Step 3: Adjust the journal entry

Open the 'Ledger' group and adjust the journal entry: change the intermediary account from Investments (0500) to Disinvestments (0550).

Step 4: Deactivate the sub-asset

Click on Deactivate

. In the 'Deactivate' window, check that the correct fiscal year and period are selected and tick 'Depreciate in this period' if one or more depreciations are still scheduled. Click OK.

Step 5: Save

Click on Save

. The investment is deactivated.
