Setting up Shop Floor (2): functional

After the technical setup of the Shop Floor has been completed, MKG itself must also be configured so that your employees can actually start clocking hours. Based on this second part in a series of articles about Shop Floor setup, you can now take the next steps towards an operational Shop Floor.

The functional setup of the Shop Floor always takes place in the MKG Client. This applies to both the settings and the layout and display of the screens, as they should be shown via the Smart Client. You can read more about this in the article Setting up Shop Floor (3): layout.

Step 1: Create a user account for the terminal

Open the module Users and create at least 1 "shopfloor" user. Essentially, you are creating a separate user for each terminal.

Users
User » General / Login

  • Active = true
  • Name. Advice: sf/sf1/sf2, sfc/sfc1/sfc2, shopfloor/shopfloor1/shopfloor2
  • Administrator = false

General

  • Password: enter a complex password
  • Complex password = true

  • Is Shop Floor Control = true
  • Shop Floor badge clocking:
    • false: employees log in on the screen
    • true: employees log in with a badge

Please note!
This account is not an account for an employee, but the access account for a terminal. Each Shop Floor terminal can use its own account to set up specific views and filters per terminal. Useful if you have a separate terminal per department.

Step 2: Ensure sufficient licenses

For the number of users that need access to the Shop Floor, a license is required. This entails the following:

  • The Shop Floor terminal can be opened at an 'unlimited' number of workstations.
  • An MKG user must be created for all employees.
  • A MKG Shop Floor license must be obtained for each employee who wants access to the Shop Floor.

Step 3: Create a user for each employee

Every employee who needs to clock hours via the Shop Floor must be created as a user in MKG:

  • Active = true
  • Name: advice = corresponding with employee
  • Is Shop Floor Control = false

Step 4: Set access to the Shop Floor

The employee must be linked to a user in MKG. Open the module Employees and ensure that on the 'General' tab the field Login name matches the user.

Images added on the 'General' tab are visible on the tiles of the Shop Floor terminal. Maintain a size of 256px x 256px for the image. Larger formats can be uploaded, but they are decoded, which can delay the screen startup.

The employee gains access to the Shop Floor and parts of the Shop Floor via the settings on the 'Time Management' tab:

  • Active on Shop Floor = true
  • Report ready immediately: optional
  • Show planning: optional
  • Show unmanned operation: optional
  • Show consult hours: optional
  • Show production readiness: optional
  • Show material issuance: optional
  • Show notifications: optional

Employee » Time Management » Shop Floor

Is working time shift applicable? Then this must be set on the employee via the setting 'Working Time Shift' = true.

Please note!
If you set working time shift for the Shop Floor, it must also be configured in the administration settings and on the day schedule.

Step 5: Link employees to operations and resources

To allow your employees to choose from a limited number of operations or resources on the Shop Floor terminal, you can set a selection for each individual employee. This only sets a default: the employee can select other operations and resources if necessary or desired.

  • Operations: selection of standard operations (time registration based on pre-calculation operations)
  • Resources: selection of standard resources (time registration based on planning operations)

Employees
Employee » Time Management » Default Time Registration Data

Please note!
For employees who do not clock on production orders, a standard (indirect) operation can be set. If an indirect operation is selected under 'Operation', 'Presence Registration' = true ensures that the employee can only log in and clock out.

Step 6: Set day and shift schedules

In the Day Schedule module, you can set a login buffer in which overtime is calculated when clocking in earlier or clocking out later than the specified time when one is supposed to be present:

  • Working Time Shift = true. This setting must also be active on the employee and in the administration settings.
  • Correct Presence Buffers = true. If you want a buffer between 'early from' and 'early to' that should not be clocked as overtime.

Day Schedule
Day Schedule » General

In the Shift Schedule module, you apply the day schedule to the shift schedule created for the employee. In the Shift Calendar module, you then assign the shift schedule to the employee. Make sure that you keep the start date the same as the day the employee begins and that they do not differ from each other.

Step 7: Check the administration settings

Various settings are available for clocking in and out, depending on preferences. Here you will find the setting 'Working Time Shift', which should be set to 'automatic before start' if working time shift is applicable and is active on both the employee and the day schedule.

In the 'Stop' section, various default actions can be found for starting an operation and clocking out.
