How to add material to a calculation

A calculation is filled with materials and operations to obtain a well-founded quotation price. This article explains how to add material to your calculation. You can use VRM, the accelerated calculation method.

Once you have taken a sales quote line into calculation, the calculation is created and you can add material to the calculation. Within the material line, you have the option to use VRM as a method to calculate the material price. Follow the steps below to add material using VRM, the accelerated calculation method.

Step 1: Open the calculation

Search and select the calculation to which you want to add material on the module homepage. You will end up in the final product of the calculation.

Step 2: Go to the calculation semi-finished product

Double-click before the line to go to the calculation semi-finished product. You will be on the 'Materials' tab.

Step 3: Create a material line

Click on Calculation Material

to create a material line. Then double-click before the line to open it. You will end up in the material line (Calculation Material). On the right side of your screen, you will see the 'VRM' section.

Step 4: Fill in the VRM material data

In this example, we work with the following data for a shaft with a keyway:

  • Material formula: Round
  • Material type: C 45
  • Diameter: 20 mm
  • Requirement based on: HL/PL
  • Product length: 300 mm
  • Trade length: 6,000 mm

To use VRM, first select the Formula. Then select the Material. Enter the parameter in the Parameters field. The letter(s) correspond with the letter(s) in the image, in this case, the diameter.

Set the Requirement based on under 'Length' and finally fill in the net Product length and the gross Trade length.

Once the values are entered, the calculated fields are automatically filled by MKG under 'Quantity and prices'.

Step 5: Save the changed data

Click on Save

. Navigate to the linked calculation. The material is added to the calculation. You can now add operations.
