Error message when transferring documents from quote to order via SharePoint

When converting a sales quote to a sales order, the error message "Invalid handle. Not initialized or points to a deleted object. (3135)" could appear when documents from SharePoint were included during the process transition. Linked documents were not processed correctly when saving the sales order.
