How to Enter Dates and Times?

Dates and times are important in many different modules, for example, to measure the duration of operations or to track employees' working days. This article explains the ways in which dates (days and week numbers) and times (duration or clock hours) can be entered and how to set standards that match your preferences. This way, you can work faster and more efficiently in MKG.

Date

In various modules in MKG, you will find date fields. Depending on the function of the field, it is simply called Date in one module and, for example, Delivery Date in another. However, editable date fields work the same everywhere. Behind the name, you will find a small box for the week number and a larger box for the day, month, and year.

Day

When you click on the small triangle behind a date field, a calendar opens. The current date is marked in gray by default. You can then browse through this calendar with your mouse or the arrow keys.

  • Mouse: You can click directly on the desired date with your mouse. The clicked date is then immediately set in the field. Above the calendar, you see 2 arrows with the current month and year in between. Clicking on the arrows takes you to the previous or next month. Clicking on the month zooms out further: click once to see all months of the year, and click again to see multiple years. By clicking on today's date at the top of the calendar, you can easily return to the current month.
  • Arrow keys: Use the right and left arrows to navigate through the days easily. These arrows move you one day at a time. The up and down arrows move you one week at a time. The field is only filled with your chosen date when you press enter.

Week Number

Next to each date field in MKG, there is a small field where the week number is displayed. You can type in this field yourself. It is possible to enter only a week number. If you enter a week number yourself, the date is set to the Monday of that week by default, unless otherwise configured. You can also set this preferred day yourself.

In the administration settings, you can choose a default preferred day for all date fields via the Day by Week field. What you set here is applied to all date fields in MKG.

Do you want to adjust the preferred day only for the current date field without changing the default for all date fields? This can be done in the module you are working in. Simply right-click on the week number, go to 'Day by Week' and choose your desired day.

Time

On operation lines of bill of materials, calculations, and production orders, operation times can be entered. This concerns the duration of operations. Also, in the time registration, times can be entered manually. In this module, it generally concerns clock hours.

Duration

If you want to specify the duration of an operation, the time can be entered in 3 different units:

  • Hours (h)
  • Minutes (m)
  • Seconds (s)

In the administration settings, you can set the preferred unit for time in the Default Time Duration Entry field. If you do not specify a unit in a time field, the preferred unit chosen in the administration settings is applied. By default, this preference is set to 'minutes'. So if you only enter '10', MKG recognizes this as '10 minutes'. Additionally, with the Show Duration As field, you can choose whether to display the time in hours, minutes, and seconds (hhhh:mm:ss) or only in hours and minutes (hhhh:mm).

For illustration, we have some examples below that show what happens when you enter data in different ways. In the list, you will see, among other things, that MKG recognizes both 'u' and 'h' as 'hour'. Additionally, the last example shows a rounding. If you had set that only hours and minutes are displayed, but you also enter seconds, MKG rounds to the nearest minute.

What You Enter What MKG Recognizes How It Is Converted What Appears in the Field
250m 250 minutes 250 minutes is 4 hours and 10 minutes 4:10 or 4:10:00
3.7h 3.7 hours 3.7 hours is 3 hours and 42 minutes 3:42 or 3:42:00
3.7h 3.7 hours 3.7 hours is 3 hours and 42 minutes 3:42 or 3:42:00
1500s 1500 seconds 1500 seconds is 25 minutes 0:25 or 0:25:00
2h30m45s 2 hours, 30 minutes, 45 seconds No conversion needed 2:31 or 2:30:45

Clock Hours

In the Time Registration module, you register employees' working hours. In this case, times are start and end times and are presented as hh:mm (for example, '07:30') based on the 24-hour clock. Because these are clock times and not hours indicating duration, as with operations, MKG recognizes the entered time as clock hours. For added convenience, MKG also recognizes these times if you omit the colon. In other words, 0730 is converted to 07:30, and 1645 becomes 16:45.
