How to Choose the Time Registration Method that Fits Your Company?
Directly to the Time Registration Decision Tree
What is Digital Time Registration?
It is important to keep a good overview of the hours worked by your employees. You can manually enter and register these hours in MKG, but it is also possible to have the entire time registration process done digitally.
The digital time registration in MKG3 is structured in several levels:
- Tracking Employee Hours: You can register the start and end times or the total times of employees. This way, you accurately track the presence and worked hours of employees.
- Booking Hours on Production Orders: You can book hours on orders, making the post-calculation per project visible.
- Reporting Completion of Operations: You can report the completion of operations that occur in a production order, giving you insight into the current status of the production order.
The deeper you want to go with your time registration, the more extensive the possibilities for time registration become.
What Factors are Important?
It is important to first map out exactly what you want to register. Do you only want to track your employees' hours, or do you also want to book their hours directly on production orders? Based on your needs, there are various options to choose from and factors to consider:
Type of Software
- MKG Office: This is the regular MKG ERP environment used by employees at a workstation with a PC. Users have access to all the usual MKG modules.
- MKG Shop Floor: This is the environment used on the shop floor with a PC or a tablet. This environment enables the digital options for time registration. The Shop Floor has its own screens and communicates with the regular MKG environment but is separate from it.
- MKG App: This is the environment for digital time registration specifically designed for mobile phones that can install apps. The app has its own screens and communicates with the regular MKG environment but is separate from it.
Type of Registration
- Manual Time Registration: This allows an MKG user to manually enter hours (via the regular MKG Office license on a PC, in the Time Registration module). These can be presence hours, but users can also enter time on a production order. This registration is always done afterward and never in real time.
- Attendance Registration (Attendance License): With this license variant, it is only possible for employees to register start and end times. This can be done via MKG Shop Floor or the MKG App on all compatible devices. This method of registration is always in real time.
- Digital Time Registration: This is the most comprehensive form of time registration. It allows all employees on the shop floor to register hours in real time, via a PC, tablet, or smartphone. This can be done via MKG Shop Floor or the MKG App.
Type of Device
It is possible to choose between different devices on which the registration is performed. Which device is most suitable depends on your situation. These are the options:
- PC
- Tablet
- Smartphone
Consult the decision tree to determine which device fits your situation. If you want to use a tablet, we recommend an Android tablet. Here you can find our recommendations for tablet specifications. Combinations of device types and licenses are also possible: for example, you can use a PC in the office and a tablet in the workshop.
What Variants of Time Registration are There?
| Type of Registration | License | Device | Note |
| Manual Time Registration | Office License | PC | |
| Attendance Registration | Attendance License | PC | |
| Attendance Registration | Attendance License | Tablet | |
| Digital Time Registration | Shop Floor License | PC | Hours are entered in real time. You cannot fill them in or adjust them afterward yourself. This can only be done by a user with an MKG Office license. |
| Digital Time Registration | Shop Floor License | Tablet | Hours are entered in real time. You cannot fill them in or adjust them afterward yourself. This can only be done by a user with an MKG Office license. |
| Digital Time Registration | App License | Smartphone | If you want to scan QR codes, it is important that the smartphone has a good camera. |
What Additional Options are There?
It is possible to use a hand scanner that can easily scan production orders (barcode or QR code). However, this is not mandatory, as you can also manually search and select the production orders on the screen. A hand scanner only adds value if you use a PC for time registration.
Key fobs or other sign-in options, such as cards, can only be applied in combination with MKG5.
What are the Costs?
For the use of MKG, subscription costs are charged per month, regardless of the software, type of registration, and device you choose. Subscription fees are always calculated per user. Therefore, license costs are calculated per month for each employee who needs to be able to clock a time record independently.
Each MKG Office license automatically includes a license for the Shop Floor. Users who use MKG Office thus also have standard access to the MKG Shop Floor. For each employee who does not have a license for the regular use of MKG, a separate (Shop Floor or App) license is required, which is calculated extra.

Adjusting Licenses |
Also take into account half a day (3.5 hours) of consultancy at the current hourly rate. In this half-day, one-time setup costs (approximately 1 to 2 hours) are included. All necessary preparations are then made, and a short explanation is given afterward.
Furthermore, purchase costs may apply if you need to purchase new devices for your chosen method.
