Progress After-Imaging

As a metal company, you rely on IT systems and software for business-critical processes, such as MKG. The availability of data and good security are essential. Short interruptions can already have significant consequences. A hardware failure, a cyber attack, or human errors are often the cause.

 

Why after-imaging?

  • Applying the After-Image technique results in less data loss in the event of a disaster in the current MKG ERP solution.
  • You can revert to a specific moment in the day in case of a hardware error or a user error that is quickly noticed.
  • There is no performance degradation.

 

Progress After-Image

Regular full database backups are typically performed three times a day. For companies that need interim recovery points, MKG offers the option to apply after-imaging at the database level. With this Progress technique, transaction changes are recorded every 10 minutes, allowing the database to be restored to a specific point in time using log files.

When after-imaging is enabled, the database engine continuously writes notes every 10 minutes describing all database changes in the after-image files. These files can then be used to restore the database to a previous point in time using the roll-forward principle, minimizing data loss.

Technical requirements

  • A separate storage location is needed for the (incremental) after-image files.

 

Optional maintenance costs

  • Periodic backup restore test, performed by MKG: 4 hours at the applicable consultancy rate.
  • If desired, the restore test can be performed on the own IT environment. An additional VM host must be set up for this.

 

One-time installation costs

  • The one-time installation costs are based on 8 hours at the applicable consultancy rate and include the following activities:
    • Advice on hardware setup (directed to IT party).
    • Inspection of hardware setup delivery (storage, server).
    • Technical setup of after-imaging.
    • Restore test as a fixed part of the test (proof of concept).
    • After delivery: backup/restore document with script, including backup/restore script.
